Same-Day CEREC Crowns
Traditionally, getting a dental crown or dental bridge required two appointments that were separated by a few weeks. At your first appointment your teeth are prepared for the crowns and measurements are taken. A lab then makes custom-fitted crowns that are installed once they are ready. But with CEREC technology our team can design and create your crowns or bridges in a single day so that they are ready to be installed only a few hours after you get your measurements.Â
How Do CEREC Crowns Work?
CEREC dental crowns rely on CAD (computer-aided design) technology. Measurements are taken of your teeth using digital scanners that allow your dentist to build a custom 3D model of your dental crown. A CEREC machine takes a cube of ceramic material and sculpts into that exact shape. It is similar to 3D printing but instead of printing the item, the item is sculpted from an existing material. After only a few hours, your custom dental crown is ready to be bonded to your tooth.Â

Benefits of CEREC Dental Crowns & Bridges
As we stated earlier, the traditional dental crown placement procedure requires multiple dental visits. Depending on where you live, the time of year, and the schedule of the dental labs in your area, you can spend weeks with a temporary crown waiting for that second appointment. With CEREC you skip the temporary crown and the need for a second appointment.Â
When properly cared for, your CEREC dental crowns can last up to fifteen years. Of course, it needs to be stated that the durability of any crown (regardless of material) is highly dependent on oral health. If patients do not brush, floss, and see the dentist regularly there is an increased risk that the tooth attached to the crown will decay and cause the crown to loosen.Â
Dental crowns are durable but they can break or get damaged by sudden oral trauma or dental decay. One of the benefits of seeing a dentist who provides CEREC is that you can get your crown replaced much quicker than going to a dentist who does not provide this treatment. At other emergency dentists, they will likely take measurements and place a temporary crown. You will then have to come back later for your actual replacement. With a CEREC dentist you can get a replacement same-day regardless of what material your original crown was made from
Intraoral scanning tools and CAD software allow dentists to be exceptionally precise with the shape and size of your crown’s design. Not only will the crown perfectly fit the tooth it is attached to but it will also be designed to not disrupt your natural bite alignment as well. Compared to the classic method of using a putty mold to take bite impressions, a digital scan can provide much more precise measurements.Â
