How Many Dental Implants Can A Patient Get In One Appointment?

There is no maximum limit to how many dental implants a patient can receive in a single dental appointment. In fact, it is very common for patients to replace more than a single lost tooth in one treatment plan. However, it is important to understand your options. For example, if you are replacing a single tooth and the rest of your teeth are healthy (i.e. patients who lose a tooth in a sudden accident), we’d recommend a singular dental implant. But for patients who are missing all or a majority of their teeth, instead of getting implants at a one to one ratio, you should consider other implant solutions like Hybridge Dental Implants. Varinos Dental Associates specializes in dental implants, full mouth reconstruction, and sedation dentistry. Our offices in Peabody, Winthrop, and Newburyport help patients manage their oral health. What Are The Different Types of Dental Implants?

When patients thing about dental implants, they frequently imagine singular dental implants. These replace a single lost tooth. The implant is designed to replace the entire lost tooth’s structure. While partial dentures and dental bridges place a false tooth outside of the gums, a dental implant replaces the root structure of the tooth by surgically placing an implant under the gums. Because this implant is similar to a healthy tooth it tends to more accurately mimic the form and function of your natural teeth. Bridges put stress on the abutment teeth (the teeth used to hold the bridge in place). This is why dental implants tend to last longer than dental bridges.

But there are other types of dental implants. For example Hybridge Dental Implants replace a full arch of teeth all at once. A regular dental implant is an alternative to a dental bridge. Hybridge implants are an alternative to removable dentures. Hybridge implants work by placing a full arch of teeth (all your top or bottom teeth). These arches are supported by strategically placed implants. Instead of replacing one tooth at a time, you are replacing a full smile with a limited number of dental implants. This is ideal for patients who has lost a majority of their teeth or are considering dentures.

Is There A Benefit To Placing Multiple Dental Implants At Once?

For patients who have lost a couple of teeth, you might consider getting singular implants all at the same time. As we mentioned above, there is no upper limit to how many implants you can get at once. In fact, there are some benefits to doing it this way. The obvious benefit is the timeline. Getting multiple implants at the same time is hitting multiple birds with one stone so to speak. Instead of going through a months long process to get a single implant, and then starting again a few months later, you can get all your implants around the same time.

However, that method is not recommended for everyone. Here at Varinos Dental Associates we create custom dental plans based on our patients’ oral health and overall needs. For example, we might recommend Hybridge for a patient who has lost most of their teeth and/or has significant damage to the remainder of their teeth. But for singular implants, we might recommend doing a few all in the same treatment plan or having different schedules for different teeth. For example, patients sometimes need to strengthen their jaw bone before getting a dental implant in order to make sure that implant will be successful.
