Sedation Dentistry

What is Sedation Dentistry

The answer to your dental anxiety: Conscious Sedation Dentistry is dentistry without any discomfort or fear.

Are you living with dental pain because you are afraid to visit the dentist? Are you hiding your smile because your smile is unattractive or unhealthy and you are too fearful to address your dental health?

You are a perfect candidate for sedation dentistry. You are not alone. Millions of people share your fears and apprehensions. We at Varinos Dental Associates understand how you feel and we have an answer.

Varinos Dental Associates was one of the first offices in Peabody and on the entire North Shore to cater to high fear patients by offering conscious sedation dentistry. Our doctors have been using this method on patients for years, and have helped thousands of people who previously avoided going to the dentist at all.

Why Oral Sedation?

We use pills for several reasons:

  • Oral sedation is very safe.
  • Many high fear patients are needle-phobic, so we do not like to use a needle for sedation purposes. You will have no intravenous tubes or needles in your arm.
  • With oral sedation, we can work on patients for a longer period of time.
  • The pills stay in a patient’s system for several hours after the appointment, so we get few complaints of pain after procedures are completed.

Will I feel any pain?

No. You will feel nothing!

Will I be unconscious?

No, you will be in a deeply relaxed state, and you will be responsive.

How long will I be relaxing?

Depending on your needs, from two to six hours.

Will I be monitored?

Yes, one of our team is always with you and your vital signs are monitored during the entire visit. You are never alone.

Will someone need to accompany me?

Yes, due to the sedative effects of the medication, you will need someone to drive you to our office and home again.

How Does it Work?

The night before your appointment, you will take your first pills. On the morning of your visit, you will take another pill. When you come in for your sedation appointment, you can relax throughout your dental visit. You will not remember sounds or smells, and you will have little or no memory of the entire experience.
